White Scale in Your Tank? Delhi & Gurgaon Hard Water Explained
Chalky white deposits are calcium and magnesium from hard groundwater. What removes them safely, and what destroys your tank.
A chalky white crust on tank walls, white residue in the kettle, spots on glassware and stiff laundry all point the same way: hard water. Across much of outer Delhi, Gurgaon and Noida, groundwater carries high calcium and magnesium, and both precipitate out onto every surface the water touches.
Why scale is worse than it looks
- Scale is porous — it gives biofilm and bacteria a textured surface to anchor into
- It narrows pipe bore over years and reduces flow
- It shortens the life of geysers, washing machines and pumps
- It makes the tank harder to clean each time it is left, because scale bonds progressively
Removing it safely
Scale needs mechanical removal — sustained high-pressure jetting and, on heavy build-up, a mechanised descaling head. It takes longer than an ordinary clean, which is exactly why Gurgaon rates run above Delhi rates for the same tank size.
What it does not need is acid. Hydrochloric acid and toilet-bowl cleaners strip scale quickly and also attack RCC surfaces, metal fittings and pump seals, and leave residue in a vessel you drink from. If a cleaner reaches for acid on your drinking-water tank, stop the job.

Cleaning interval for hard-water areas
Every four months rather than every six. Scale that is four months old lifts under a jet. Scale that is two years old needs descaling, and the price reflects it.
