Factory & Industrial Water Tank Compliance in Delhi NCR
Drinking water for workers, process water for production — two different standards on the same premises.
Industrial premises usually run at least two water systems, and confusing them is the most common compliance failure we encounter.
The two systems
Potable water feeds drinking points, canteens and washrooms. It falls under the employer’s obligation to provide clean drinking water to workers, and it is inspected.
Process water feeds production, cooling and cleaning. Its standard is set by what it touches — a food or pharmaceutical process demands potable-grade or better; a cooling circuit has entirely different concerns, principally scale and Legionella risk.
Cleaning intervals
| Storage | Interval |
|---|---|
| Potable / drinking water tanks | Quarterly |
| Canteen supply tanks | Quarterly |
| Process water, food or pharma | Quarterly, documented |
| Process water, general industry | Twice a year |
| Cooling tower basins | Per the water treatment plan |
| Firefighting reserve | Annually, with level and integrity check |
Firefighting reserves are the forgotten one
A firefighting tank sits full and undisturbed for years, which is the ideal condition for sediment and biofilm. It rarely appears on anyone’s cleaning schedule because nobody drinks from it — right up to the day it is needed and the pumps draw silt.
