Water Tank Cleaning in East Delhi — The Local Homeowner Guide
Mayur Vihar to Karawal Nagar. Older plumbing, Yamuna-side supply and why quarterly beats half-yearly here.
East Delhi combines two things that shorten a sensible cleaning interval: older building stock with ageing pipework, and supply drawn from the Yamuna side of the city with higher seasonal turbidity.
Old GI pipework
A large share of East Delhi housing still runs galvanised iron pipe installed decades ago. GI corrodes from the inside, and what corrodes off it ends up in your tank as rust flakes and dissolved iron. This is the zone where we most often find that yellow water is a plumbing problem rather than a tank problem — and we say so, because cleaning the tank will not fix it.
The test is simple: if water from a tap fed directly off the mains is also discoloured, the tank is collecting the problem rather than causing it.
Monsoon turbidity
Supply turbidity spikes noticeably during and after heavy rain. The municipal side resolves itself; the sediment it deposits in your tank does not. A post-monsoon clean in September or October is the single highest-value slot in the East Delhi calendar.

Standard Delhi rates apply: ₹899 for a 1,000-litre overhead tank, ₹1,500–₹2,200 for a building sump. Same-day slots are usually available; East Delhi is a slightly longer run from Pitampura, so morning bookings work best.
